The high-octane world of elite motorsport has always relied on advanced fuels for its incredible speed and excitement. Today, such commitment to technological innovation is driving global transport towards a more sustainable future. The development of new synthetic fuels could play a pivotal role in a circular carbon economy, which combines reducing, reusing, recycling, and removing of CO2 emissions in an all-inclusive, holistic framework.
Aramco’s low-carbon synthetic fuels aim to combine CO2, captured from industrial processes or directly from the air, with green hydrogen. These synthetic fuels may be able to reduce life cycle greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70% compared to petroleum-based fuels. As they are made chemically similar to conventional fuels, they are compatible with the world’s existing transport technologies and infrastructures. They can be used as blending components to reduce lifecycle emissions or fully displace conventional fuels in hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as heavy-duty freight, aviation, and marine.
