PAU, THE JOURNEY STARTS HERE
Pau’s historical town centre will inspire you to take a stroll through the quarter of Henry the IV’s château, or to look round its smart shops before a meal in one of its choice of restaurants.
There’s always something on, whether it be in the museums, with the Pau Pays de Béarn symphony orchestra or in the cultural program of the magnificent Saint-Louis theatre.
SO BRITISH
In the middle of the XIXth century an important English community chose Pau as its wintering playground.
The presence of some 300 mansions and country houses, the oldest golf course on the European continent, the racecourse founded in 1842 with its adjacent training centre (the second most important in France)… are just examples of the heritage that continue to bear witness of that very special way of life.
Their remarkable gardens and parks render Pau’s gentle lifestyle all the more incomparable
THE KING HORSE
The place occupied today by the horse is to the credit of the Anglo-Saxon colony. The lifestyle of the time has become a leading economic sector. The training center in Pau is the second in France after Chantilly, and the racecourse, inaugurated in 1842, hosts 200 races each year. Once a year, the elite riders meet in Pau for a four-star level competition. Pau is one of the 6 stages in the world of this international competition.
